Also known as Virginia State, VSU was named a top Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in America. Located in Petersburg, VA, it ranked #12 out of 104 in America.

VSU prints a multitude of projects. Because they are a state university, they’re required to print through Virginia Correctional Enterprises (VCE) first. However, if printing requirements are beyond what VCE can produce‑like variable data or high quantities for the alumni magazine—they can connect to outside vendors. Still, costs and time are always a factor.

First, we evaluated papers to match their existing materials, and we secured special pricing. Our pre-press worked closely with VSU to refine the layout of the alumni magazine and pocket folder to maximize efficiencies. We examined mailing options to provide savings. On alumni letters, we helped them print variable data so the 24,000 mailers were customized for recipients.

Savings. Savings. Savings. The adjustments in our pre-press saved VSU time, and we reduced the paper costs enabling a higher quantity print run. Additionally, for their new student guide, we mailed those through a bulk mail center (BMC) instead of first class as VSU would have done on their own. That secured a nonprofit bulk rate of $0.24 instead of the $1.49 (a savings of $1.25/piece).
