Materials used in custom poster printing
Materials commonly used in custom poster printing include:
- High-gloss paper
- Semi-gloss paper
- 20-millimeter styrene
Laminating may or may not be required. Grommets or another mounting mechanism such as framing may be something to consider.
What do we mean when we say styrene?
Styrene is a lightweight, flexible, plastic printing product that’s great for displaying just about anywhere – indoors, outdoors – you name it. (Although, indoor is preferred.) Full color printing really pops with styrene, but you could certainly stick to black and white.

- You can print both one- and two-sided
- You can custom cut styrene into just about any shape
- Smaller printed signs will most likely require a “bleed” of at least .25 inches, whereas a 1-inch bleed will most likely be required for larger signage such as posters
- Because it’s a heavier weight than paper, discuss hanging options with your printer. You may need grommets, framing, and the like.
